The Head of the DPD of RI Visited Pindad to Review Ventilators and Other Products to Combat Covid-19

PT Pindad (Persero) introduced a ventilator and other products to fight against Covid-19 during a working visit by the Head of the Indonesian Regional Representative Council (DPD) of RI, AA La Nyalla Mahmud Mattalitti (20/4). The President Director of Pindad, Abraham Mose along with the Board of Directors received this visit in order to support every efforts to accelerate the handling management of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

The list of products that was being introduced are Manual Resutitator Ventilator (Pindad VRM), Covent-20 Ventilator in collaboration with the University of Indonesia, Fog Cannon Disinfectant, Mobile Sterilization Chamber Covid-19, as well as PT Pindad Enjiniring Indonesia's (PT PEI) subsidiary products, namely disinfectant fluid and PPE equipment which consists of PPE clothing, face shield helmets and googles.

Abraham hopes that the DPD can absorb the aspirations of the people related to the Covid-19's countermeasure. He also revealed that the responsive HR Pindad collaborated with doctors to produce Covid-19 countermeasures.

"Pindad has competent human resources so that in these conditions we can quickly, responsively produce products related to Covid-19 countermeasures. We also work with doctors from the Pindad Hospital who provide input to our engineers on how to produce standards for medical treatment, "Abraham said. 

Abraham told that the reason behind the ventilator idea was based on the difficulty of finding a ventilator for Pindad Hospital, which at this time the price has also increased dramatically. In the end Pindad was encouraged to make a ventilator that could be used for Pindad Hospital and other hospitals which is in line with the direction of the government, the Defense Minister and the Minister of BUMN, to produce ventilators.

Meanwhile La Nyalla Mattalitti in his speech supported Pindad to immediately do a mass production of the ventilator for Covid-19 patients.

"Indonesia's population is exposed to the highest Covid-19 infection rate in Southeast Asia. This is a serious problem and will become even more serious problems if we do not anticipate resilience in the health sector quickly. Therefore, when I heard that PT Pindad (Persero) was asked by the Ministry of SOEs to produce ventilators or breathing aid device, we were very supportive to immediately mass-produce the ventilator as soon as possible, "La Nyalla said.

Pindad VRM was designed and developed with a team of medical experts from Pindad General Hospital as an alternative solution to the lack of ventilators in dealing with Covid-19 patients today. Pindad VRM has a simple design and operation, uses local components and raw materials that are widely available in the market and meets the minimum medical criteria needed (tidal volume, respiratory frequency, etc.). Currently Pindad is submitting a process of testing the feasibility of the equipment to the Health Facilities Safety Center (BPFK).

While Covent-20 is an emergency and mobile ventilator with a constant cycle time and volume that is designed for use in prehospital, intra-hospital, inter-hospital and transportation settings. There are two modes of ventilation in Covent-20 namely CPAP (Oxygen therapy) and CMV (patient with respiratory failure).

Disinfectant Fog Cannon is a motorized disinfectant shooter that is applied to motorized vehicles. Available in 3 sizes: large (1000 L tank volume, 900 mm diameter, petrol motor drive), medium (1000 L tank volume, 700 mm diameter, electric drive) and small (200 L tank volume, 450 mm diameter, electric drive) . Medium-sized cannons transported by truck can spray disinfectants with a range of 10 m. Pindad has used this tool in collaboration with the Bandung City Fire and Disaster Management Office (Diskar PB) to spray disinfectants at various landmarks in Bandung.

The Mobile Sterilization Chamber Covid-19 is a sterilization chamber that spray disinfectant vapors to the body surface for sterilization from viruses and bacteria. Pindad Sterilization Chamber uses non-hazardous materials, non-alcoholic, toxic free and Neutral PH so that it is safe and in accordance with WHO recommendations. This unit was created because of WHO Indonesia's concern regarding carsiogenic materials, this chamber uses disinfectants that are environmentally friendly so the use of chambers must be continued as part of Covid-19 prevention efforts.

PT PEI also manufactures environmentally friendly disinfectant fluids that have received WHO approval and PPE equipment consisting of PPE clothing, face shield helmets and googles to support medical needs in treating Covid-19 patients.
