Anoa Panzer Monument, New Icon of Banyumas
The commemoration of the Indonesia’s 73rd anniversary of Independence was a historical day for the nation, where on August 17, 73 years ago, the founding fathers of this country proclaimed the independence of Indonesia, a country free from occupation, just like what their forefathers had mandated to them. Coinciding with the sacred moment, PT Pindad (Persero) presented an APC type (Armored Personnel Carrier) Anoa Panzer monument to the regional government of Banyumas regency in the Banyumas Square on August 17, 2018.
The monument was presented by the Vice President of the Asset Security and Management, Muchsin Anwar, representing Pindad Management, and it was inaugurated by the Regional Secretary of Banyumas regency, represented by local government representative, Ahmad Suryanto, Commander of the Army Administrative Unit, Head of the District Police and the people of Banyumas. The monument that would become a new icon of Banyumas was given by the Indonesian State Army’s Commander in Chief, Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto for his ancestors’ land through Pindad in this special moment.
The monument will be permanently exhibited in the Banyumas Square, complementing an already existing monument, the Fresco MIG 17 fighter jet given by the Air Force. May the Anoa Panzer monument become a symbol of the nation’s pride and could elevate the spirit of nationhood to the people of Banyumas and its surrounding.
The Anoa Panzer monument will attract more people to visit the Banyumas Square and could also serve as an educational media for the public. This monument is also hoped to bring economic boost to the people and street vendors around the perimeter of the Square.
