105 mm AMUNITION
105mm Ammunition is a large-caliber ammunition developed by PT Pindad (Persero). This product is a field artillery howitzer with 105mm caliber and has a function as a firing support as equal as a battalion which is an indirect firing needed in a conventional combat tactical to disturb concentration of enemy’s infantry in 11km of effective firing distance. It can be used by Indonesian National Armed Force (TNI) especially for artillery in the army, marine in the navy and special troops in the air force.
Procedure of this product has several steps. First, put the propellant as equal as the firing distance to the cartridge case. Second, piece chief or battalion commander checks the propellant accord to the firing distance. Third, put the ammunition to the chamber and lock it. Fourth, piece chief commands shooter to change the firing elevation. Fifth, after all the preparation is ready, the piece chief commands the shooter to fire the ammunition.
The advantage of this 105mm ammunition is the design and production are conducted by a domestic company, which means that logistic supply of TNI will be free of embargo, and TNI will not depend on other countries in fulfilling the needs of 105mm ammunition. In addition, this ammunition will give deterrent effect for Indonesia.
Research of this product was started by benchmarking other 105mm ammunitions available in the international market. Afterwards, reverse engineering was conducted to several excellent part such as cartridge case, percussion primer system, main ammunition case, propellant and fuse. In its developing process, trial and error method was conducted several times to gain the highest affectivity level in explosive power and precise target of 105mm ammunition. Several raw materials are imported such as case and fuse. However, the filling of explosive material conducting by the Munition Division of Turen, Malang is able to make mass-production of this product possible.
Tests of this ammunition were conducted by the Research and Development Division of PT (Pindad) Bandung and the Munition Division of Turen, Malang. Meanwhile, the certification process was conducted by several stages. First, the laboratory test of metallurgy material, cartridge case and case were carried out. Second, the laboratory test for the propellant were carried out. Additionally, fragmentation test was conducted in Lumajang, East Java and resulted the average mass of fragmentation of 10-200gr (90%). Beside fragmentation test, fragmentation density test was also conducted, and the result showed that the missile can explode perfectly and can penetrate 3mm-thick of aluminum plat with a distance of 15m and fragmentation density of >10 fragments/m2 in a distance of 25m. In addition, product trial was conducted in Dinas Penelitian dan Pengembangan Angkatan Darat or Dislitbang AD (Indonesian Army’s Research and Development Department) in Ambal, Kebumen by matching the tavel firing shot and the precision result.105 mm munitions are large caliber munitions products developed by PT Pindad (Persero). This product is a cluster of field artillery cannon with a caliber of 105 mm. This product is used to provide fire support battalion class which is curved cross shot needed in conventional combat tactics to break the concentration of enemy troops with a maximum effective range of 11 kilometers shots. This product can be used by the Indonesian Armed Forces, especially for the Army to field artillery forces, Navy to the Marines, and Air Force for Special Forces.
There are several steps to make this product work. First, enter the appropriate push into the firing range eroded. Second, the Commander shoots will check the fields push the appropriate distance shots. Third, the Munitions put into a chamber and then locked. Fourth, the commander ordered sight to change elevation shots. Finally, after everything is ready, the commander shoots will give the command to fire munitions.
Excess products munitions 105 mm is the process of design and the production process conducted by the domestic company, this means logistics supply in the force will be embargo free and the army will not be depens on meeting the needs of 105 mm caliber ammunition. Beside that, the production of 105 mm ammunition will cause a deterrent effect for Indonesia.
Research for this product begins with benchmarking products other 105 mm munitions that are existing internationally. Furthermore, doing the reverse engineering for superior parts, such as eroded, penggalak system, major munitions case, stuffing thrust, and fuse. In the development process, trial and error was done many times to gett a high level of effectiveness in explosive power and precision targeting of 105 mm ammunition. Some raw materials are still imported from abroad such as case and fuse. However, charging explosives carried in the Munitions Division Turen, Malang has been able to do mass production.
Test for munitions products made ??in Research and Development Division of PT Pindad (Persero) Bandung and Munitions Division Turen, Malang. As for the certification process, conducted in several processes. First, the laboratory test for metallurgical material, eroded, and the case. Secondly, the laboratory test to push stuffing munitions. Fragmentation test done in Lumajang, East Java and generates an average weight of fragmentation that is 10-200 grams (90 %). In addition to the fragmentation test, density test is also conducted with the results of projectile fragments can explode perfectly and can penetrate the aluminum plate with a thickness of 3 mm with a distance of 15 meters with a density fractions > 10 pecahan/m2 with a distance of 25 meters. Beside that, the product also conducted trials with matching tavel firing shots with precision results conducted in a test facility at Ambal Distlitbang AD, Kebumen.
