Newly harvested rice usually has a moisture content of 24-26%. This rice needs to be cleaned (through the sieving process, aspiration, and magnetic separation) to remove dust, chaff, tags, nail, etc. and then the moisture content needs to be reduced by up to 12% before rice can be stored.

Conditioning the level of rice moisture in the range of 12% before storage is very important to maintain good quality of the rice. One effective method of reducing the moisture content of rice is through processing in paddy driers. PT Pindad (Persero) is one of the manufacturers that provides paddy drier machine in Indonesia.

PT Pindad (Persero) paddy drier machine or can be referred as a circulation type grain drying machine named Pindad PDR-10 is a machine that serves to reduce the moisture content of grains to a certain moisture content by sucking hot air and flowing hot air toward the grain’s circulation path.

This type of grain drying machine consists of drying chamber, tempering chamber, bucket elevator unit, heating source, drive motor, blower and other equipment.

The working mechanism of this grain drying machine is to expel hot air from the husk furnace using a fan (blower) with flow perpendicular to the grain circulation in the drying chamber which is recirculated by the bucket elevator to the tempering chamber. Water vapor and light impurities from the drying chamber are sucked by using a fan (blower) and released through the drain. This grain drying machine uses an indirect heating system.
