Commemorate Bicycle & World Environment Day, PCC & Cakrawana Organize Cycling and Plant Trees
In commemoration of World Bicycle Day and World Environment Day in Indonesia, Pindad Cycling Community (PCC) as an organization for cycling activists within PT PINDAD employees and Cakrawana PT Pindad as a nature conservation organization for employees of PT Pindad held joint bicycle and tree planting activities on Sunday, 5 June 2022.
The cycling activity route starts from PT Pindad, Jl. Gatot Subroto No. 517 Bandung and finished in Kampoeng Tjibarani – Cidadap, Bandung and then continued with the activity of planting 100 tree seedlings.
First declared by the UN General Assembly in New York on June 3, 2018, World Bicycle Day has been commemorated by the international community with various campaigns for cycling activities every June 3rd. Long before, on June 5 to 16, 1972 at the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment, the United Nations General Assembly designated June 5 as World Environment Day, or World Environment Day. Since then, this commemoration has become a forum for raising awareness of environmental issues such as marine pollution, global warming, sustainable use of natural resources, or environmentally friendly lifestyles.
The head of PCC, Imam Diawarman, said that this activity, apart from campaigning the use of bicycles as an environmentally friendly mode of transportation, also through tree planting activities will provide various benefits for the environment of the City of Bandung.
"With this commemorating event, I hoped that cycling will become an option for the mobility of Bandung residents, not only as a sports activity but also as a mode of daily transportation. The tree planting activity is a real form of long-term contribution to increase carbon dioxide absorption as a result of motorized vehicles, increase oxygen supply for Bandung residents' activities, as well as natural mitigation to avoid natural disasters such as floods or soil erosion. Thus, pollution in the city of Bandung can be more controlled, nature will be more beautiful, safe and comfortable, and the citizens of Bandung will be healthier,” said Imam Diawarman, as Chair of the Pindad Cycling Community.
This activity was well organized and supported by the Cepot Lipet bicycle community, Pitlipeut Pindad Bandung, Borokokok Brompton Bandung, Balikin Folding Bike Community Polygon BTW, PT Pindad Enjiniring Indonesia, Mind the People, Kalbe, Jerjhon, Kreuz, and Kampung Tjibarani.
