Pindad and FNSS Launched Medium Tank Design in Indo Defence 2016

PT Pindad (Persero), a state-owned defense company, together with a Turkish defense company, FNSS, and the Ministry of Defense launched the medium tank design, a result of the two companies’ cooperation, at the biggest defence exhibition in Southeast Asia, Indo Defence Expo and Forum 2016. The medium tank design was proudly presented by PT Pindad President Director Abraham Mose together with FNSS Turkey Medium Tank Project Manager Baris Aslan.

Abraham said that the cooperation with the Turkish defense company FNSS was an honor for Pindad to keep learning and developing its ability. “This is an honor for Pindad from the Ministry of Defense to have able to escalate the company’s ability in the field of combat vehicle,” he stated. The product developing process is divided into 3 steps in accordance to the cooperation scope, which are designing process, prototyping process, and trials process.

He also explained about how the design of the medium tank would not be found in any other tank in the world. “The design we are going to present is the only one in the world, because other than being the result of research and development from Pindad and FNSS, it is also an implementation from the specification given by customers in Indonesia,” he spiritedly stated.

The joint development program resulted a medium tank design consists of ballistic defense ability and the latest anti-landmines threat. This medium tank is also equipped with wide attacking power starting from close range protection for infantry troops until attack between combat vehicles, with the main weapon of cannon with 105 mm caliber that can also be used to launch guided missiles to add more attacking power. This latest generation of medium tank also has remarkable tactical and strategic ability, supported by degradability that is necessary in the battlefield.

The design was made in accordance with requirement criteria from customers, based on modern combat strategy. Where the convenience of mobilization from this medium tank becomes one of its hallmarks alongside with its ability. This joint development program is expected to escalate Pindad’s production technology from producing wheeled vehicle like Panser to producing chain-wheeled vehicle starting from medium tank. “The latest and unique design and technology is one of the proudest thing we have from the cooperation with FNSS. We will not waste this opportunity and we will make the most of it,” Abraham closes.
