Pindad's Business Director for Industrial Products, Heru Puryanto, said Pindad is currently planning to launch two-wheeled electric vehicles called Gesits. The manufacturing process is a collaboration with several parties including PT Wika Industri & Konstruksi, Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation, Research, Technology and Higher Education (Ristekdikti), Garasindo, and ITS.

"It’s a prototype, in essence if Pindad has successfully developed electric motorbike, we can work with any partner whatever the vehicle," he said.

Gesits body was designed by Wijaya Konstruksi, while the entire assembly process was done in Pindad. Other products exhibited were three-wheeled electric-vehicles equipped with tail box to carry goods.

Heru added that the environmentally friendly vehicles were jointly developed with ITB and carry the concept of rural transportation so it could be used to transport and to sell agricultural products. It has an easy refuel system.

"We team up with ITB for development. The concept is for rural transportation. It is convenient to carry products to sell, helps daily operations of traders or farmers. Simply don’t need to look for fuel, just plug in for electricity. When there is no electricity, it can be filled with gasoline, because of hybrid and the gasoline drives the generator and electricity filled the battery," he explained. (Bani)
