Pindad is Ready to launh SBS Tank (APC)

PINDAD unveiled his first prototype armored personnel transport (APC) track wheels. Physically, medium tanks are referred as "SBS" is already finished, but technically is only a half. SBS is currently entering the stage of maturation prototype in the R & D, and when the work has been completed will then be certified at the Ministry of Defense.

SBS dimensions of 5.68 meters long, 2.77 meters wide and 1.97 meters high. Empty weight of 10 tons, 13 tons combat weight and carries 10 crew. The suspension consists of five small roadwhweel with the drive sprocket at the front and the idler at the rear. SBS driven by a 6-cylinder diesel engine that has a liquid -cooled power of 250 hp with a ratio of 20 hp/ton. Capable of running at a speed of 70 km to 400 km and the farthest reaches of the fuel capacity 400 liters. For protection, SBS using steel with a thickness of 10 mm.

Beside SBS, Indonesia and Turkey in the 11th International Defence Industries Fair (IDEF) to in Istanbul, Turkey, also signed an agreement to develop light and medium tanks. Two domestic companies, PT Pindad and PT LEN will cooperate with FNSS Defence Systems and Turkish Aselsan to develop it. However the original Pindad tank product estimated will finish early.

Slow but sure, both countries are still in the prototype design phase. Once the prototype is finished, will be mass-produced for the two militaries. The plan RI-Turkish tank design will be launched next year with a target of 3 to 5 years of development. It was also reported that the design had to be completed before 2013 ends, and the prototype will be launched next year.

Previously PINDAD reported planning to produce light/medium tank base on the Alvis Scorpions CVRT tanks and Rheinmettal  Marder IFV, it is unknown whether this cooperation with Turkey will influence the design initially.

Beside tanks, APCs Anoa PINDAD also developed version of Amphibians. Currently APCs still in the testing stage on the river and lake. In the future, the armored vehicles Anoa will be able to get off of warships at sea. This is an effort to increase the ability of APCs Anoa, and became an amphibious vehicle is the first phase of upgrading Anoa.

Budget military defense equipment modernization and maintenance until the end of 2014 reached Rp 99 trillion, and Defense Ministry himself reportedly still require additional Rp 57 trillion. Priority addition of military defense equipment is currently moving defense equipment (tanks, aircraft) while immobile defense equipment is the radar.
