Supporting Indonesian Marine Resilience, Pindad Signs Contracts for the Procurement of Weapons and M
Witnessed by the Head of the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) Laksdya Bakamla Aan Kurnia, Chief Executive Officer of PT Pindad (Persero), Abraham Mose and the Head of the Facilities & Infrastructure Bureau of Bakamla RI, First Admiral Bakamla Amrein signed a contract to procure 12.7 mm submachine weapons and munitions on Bakamla RI patrol boat on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at Perintis Kemerdekaan Building, Jakarta. The signing ceremony was witnessed by the entourage of Bakamla RI officials, Chief Business of Defense and Security Product, Heru Puryanto, VP Marketing and Sales of Defense and Security, Edy Purwanto, GM Weapons, Wijil Djatmiko and VP Corporate University, Bayu A. Fiantoro.
The weapons purchased by Bakamla RI are the SM-5 machine gun caliber 12.7 x 99 mm which has a range up to 1,830 m with a rate of fire of 400 – 600 rounds / minute. Meanwhile, the procurement of various caliber munitions includes munition for handguns, rifles, snipers, 12.7 mm guns and submachine guns.
PT Pindad (Persero)’s defense equipment products will support Bakamla RI in carrying out the task of conducting security and safety patrols in Indonesian waters and jurisdictions.
“Thank you for the trust of Bakamla RI to use Pindad’s defense domestic industry products. Pindad’s defense equipment products will guard and support Bakamla RI’s main task in maintaining Indonesia’s marine resilience. Pindad’s support does not stop here, but will continue in the future,” said Abraham Mose in his speech.
Abraham also explained that in terms of industry, Pindad will continue to develop itself to continue to be able to support Bakamla’s needs. Hope in the future that cooperation will continue, domestic defense products, especially Pindad, can continue to grow and develop, go forward together for Indonesia.
The Head of Bakamla RI, Laksdya Bakamla Aan Kurnia said that Bakamla RI supports the national defense industry to be able to contribute increasing Indonesia’s marine resilience. Previously, the Head of Bakamla RI and his entourage have also reviewed Pindad’s production facilities and tested Pindad’s weaponry products while visiting the Pindad Bandung head office last August.
“The hope of Bakamla RI in purchasing this weapon is to strengthen its strength in duties, especially to enforce the law and the cooperation between Bakamla and Pindad can run well, and be able to help all of the tasks. Bakamla also helps to advance government programs to advance products in country.” said the Head of Bakamla RI, Laksdya TNI Aan Kurnia, S.Sos., M.M
Bakamla RI, government agencies outside the Ministry of Defense and TNI have obtained standard military firearms control licenses based on the Regulation of the Minister of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia Number 12 of 2020.
The signing of Memorandum of Understanding between PT Pindad (Persero) with Bakamla RI on “Utilization of Resources in the Context of Enhancing Marine Security” happened on the same occasion. The scope of the MoU includes : Potential for Pindad products to support the needs of Bakamla RI defense equipment, research and development collaborations, conducting trainings and other mutually agreed upon collaborations.

Pindad actively produces various defense equipment for the needs of the TNI, and has also exported a number of its superior products such as ammunition, weapons and combat vehicles to the global market.
