The President of the Republic of Indonesia inaugurate Maung Operational Vehicle

The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Joko Widodo inaugurated the newest TNI’s 4x4 WD Unit Operational Vehicle (Ranops) produced by PT Pindad at Ministry of Defense Leadership Meeting 2023 (RAPIM KEMHAN 2023) which was held on January 18, 2023 at Urip Sumoharjo field, Ministry of Defense. The car driven by the Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto, President Jokowi inspected the exhibition of the main defense system equipment (Alutsista) which was part of a series of Leadership Meeting event. President Jokowi then symbolically broke the jug as a procession of the inauguration of Ranops named “Maung”.

The inauguration was witnessed by Indonesian Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto, TNI Commander Admiral TNI Yudo Margono, Chief of Army Staff (Kasad) General TNI Dudung Abdurachman, Chief of Navy Staff (Kasal) Admiral TNI Muhammad Ali, Chief of Air Force Staff (Kasau) Marshal TNI Fadjar Prasetyo, Head of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri) General Police Listyo Sigit Prabowo, President Director of PT Len Industri (Persero) Bobby Rasyidin, CEO of PT Pindad Abraham Mose and Pindad’s BoD.

Maung is operational vehicle for the TNI unit for offroad terrain which was created to support operations and mobilization of close and cruising combat in all terrains. This vehicle has an agile and reliable maneuverability to support the mobility of its users.

Chief of Technology and Development of PT Pindad, Sigit Puji Santosa said that the Unit Operational Vehicle on display was the third version of Maung. This third version of the vehicle is a combination for troop activities in the field and commander operations.

“So we designed three series, the first series is KOMANDO for commanders, the second series is JELAJAH for a combination of fields and operations, and the third series is TANGGUH for combat training and others so that it can be equipped with weapons,” Sigit explained.

According to Sigit, the third version of Maung has numbers of advantage compared to the previous two versions. These advantages, among others, lie in its agility in manuevering and in terms of functionality it can be multi-purpose.

Ranops Maung production process is carried out by optimizing national automotive components & ecosystems so as to support the creation of an independent automotive industry ecosystem. By optimizing the domestic automotive industry ecosystem carried out by Pindad and partners, the TKDN is developed as large as possible, almost around 65% which will continue to be improved in the future.

Ranops Maung can carry 4 personnel and has 5 accessible doors, namely 4 side doors and 1 back door. Maung is available with a choice of hard top, soft top and open roof.

Ranops Maung uses a 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with a power of 136 HP. This vehicle can travel at a safe speed of 100 km/hour and has a range of up to 500 km. The front suspension uses independent coil springs, while the rear suspension uses a rigid/independent shock absorber.

This vehicle has been introduced to the public since Indo Defence 2022 Expo & Forum exhibition last November.

Apart from the newest Ranops Maung, at Rapim Kemhan this year Pindad also displayed various other vehicles including Combat Vehicle Badak, Anoa, and Harimau Medium Tank.
