Defense Rocket
In 2006, PT Pindad (Persero) was involved in a D230 national rocket development program initiated by the Ministry of Research and Technology in the form of a national consortium consisting of the Ministry of Research and Technology, Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), National Aeronautics and Space Agency (LAPAN), several universities and state-owned enterprises such as PT Dirgantara Indonesia (Persero), PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) and PT LEN Industri (Persero). This national project was also helped by the informants from the Indonesian National Armed Force (TNI).
D230 rocket developed by the consortium was ballistic missile defense system with 122mm diameter and a range of 20-30 kilometers. The development of this national rocket conducted by an ideal engineering steps, i.e. design requirement and objective, detail designing, manufacturing and testing (lab, static and dynamic).
According to its competence in the consortium, PT Pindad (Persero) had a duty to develop and produce warhead, fuze, rupture disc and Multi Launcher Rocket System (MLRS) for single, four, eight and sixteen barrel.
Furthermore, a cooperation between the Ministry of Research and Technology and the Ministry of Defense to develop D230 into R-Han 122 was tied up. The improved-rocket was launched in Air Shooting Range (ASR) owned by the Indonesian Air Force (TNI-AU) in Lumajang, East Java in 2009 and in Pusat Latihan Tempur or Puslatpur (Combat Training Centre) Baturaja, South Sumatera in 2010.
