Pindad and Dislitbang AD Develop SMB Products Cal. 12.7mm
PT Pindad (Persero) received a visit from the Kadislitbang (Head of the Indonesian Army Research & Development Agency) Brigadier General Mulyo Aji along with Indonesian Army (AD) Research and Development staff located in the Directorate meeting room of PT Pindad (Persero) Bandung (9/8/2019).
The visit was in the context of developing as well as monitoring and evaluating the design of prototype II SMB (Heavy Machine Gun) cal. 12.7 mm.
The Director of Technology and Development of PT Pindad (Persero) Ade Bagdja and General Manager of the Weapons Division Yayat Ruyat, welcomed the arrival of the Kadislitbang and the Dislitbang AD staffs.
Ade Bagdja explained about the development of various PT Pindad (Persero) defense equipment products, especially for SMB products cal. 12.7 mm as an introduction for the monitoring and evaluation activities.
The things that PT Pindad (Persero) proudly could deliver is adequate production facilities and able to manufacture various components for SMB production.
Meanwhile, Brigadier General Mulyo Aji explained that monitoring and evaluation were needed to improve the quality of the SMB products Cal. 12.7mm, which will be used to add strength and firepower in battle and could be placed in various units within the Army.
According to him, some units that require SMB products cal. 12.7mm are Infantry, Cavalry, Air defense, Artillery ground units, and other units. Brigadier General Mulyo Aji suggested that PT Pindad (Persero) needs to maintain and improve accuracy and stabilization and be able to produce products with strong durability to deal with all conditions, terrain and weather.
In the same occasion, the Working Group of PT Pindad (Persero) also gave a presentation on SMB cal. 12.7mm. At present, SMB cal. 12.7mm has reached stage 2. The prior stage 1 consists of preparation, manufacture of components and prototypes as well as testing the basic functions of the weapon mechanism (single shot).
In stage 2, the prototype has been enhanced with additional features and design changes which will then be based on joint technical and R&D discussions between PT Pindad (Persero) together with the Dislitbang AD to test the function of the advanced weapons mechanism.
The activity then continued with a plant tour to the workshop to see the development of the SMB prototype cal. 12.7mm and other production facilities. (Raka)
