PINDAD UNVEILS Badak ARMORED COMBAT VEHICLE
JAKARTA  PTPINDAD (PERSERO) reveals its latest innovation in armored vehicle: 6 x 6 special vehicle that equipped by 90 mm cannon. The company announces the presence of its product amidst Indo Defence exhibition, Wednesday November 5th 2014 in Kemayoran, Jakarta. Initially the board of management of Pindad, as a state owned enterprise, was introducing the official name of the armored vehicle after officially named by Vice President of Republic of Indonesia, Muhammad Jusuf Kalla. Our new products design actually based on the previous armored vehicle called Anoa, whereas the turret is a Cockerills 90 mm, Tri Hardjono, the Acting CEO of Pindad said.
Tri elaborated the new combat vehicle is a joint effort of Pindad and Cockerill Maintenance & Ingenierie SA Defence (CMI) team. Both companies had agreed to sign Memorandum of Understanding as a legal framework for their teams to deploy their best skills. Pindad has responsibility to build a combat vehicle from its Anoas design modified by diesel engine 6 cylinder with 340 horse power, a monocoque body with special armor that could take up to 12.7 mm ammunition and double wishbone independent suspension technology to maintain vehicle stability in the even of firing its 90 mm cannon.
Cockerills team main responsibility is developing turret with 90 mm cannon. CMI and its Cockerills brand is a well-known turret producer in the world. Both of the companies will start to enter mass production stage next year. Even more Tri and his partner very confidence they would have chance to conduct series of tests including a live-firing test of the 90 mm cannon at Indonesian Armed Forces facilility.
Badak would allow both parties to maximize their best potentials. Pindad is striving its best to enter a global supply chain in the defence industry through its partnership with CMI, Tri added. The turret, Cockerill CSE 90LP, is profoundly known as highly accurate and effective weapon. The Cockerill CSE 90LP could support users in counter-insurgency mission.
It is worth to note Badak would fit into Indonesian Armed Forces requirement to fulfill its arsenal system as stipulated in a Minimum Essential Forces (MEF) strategy. Both companies asserted their main agenda apart from MEF completion would also pave the way for Pindad and its team to introduce their product for global market. CMI will support and enhances Pindads capacity and expertise in defence industry, we will also rely on CMIs global marketing network to get better opportunities for our product to be known and sold around the globe, James Caudle of CMI added.
