PT Pindad, PT Len and Thales Partner for an Indonesian Digitized Armoured Vehicle

Jakarta, November 2nd 2016

At INDODEFENCE 2016, PT PINDAD, PT LEN and THALES are introducing a concept of Digitized Armoured Vehicle, integrating the first Indonesian C5I* Vehicle Mission System.

A first Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the three companies during EUROSATORY, the Defence & Security Exhibition which took place in Paris on June 2016, to jointly design an Indonesian military vehicle mission system. This collaboration aims at greatly reinforcing the operational capabilities of the armoured vehicles proposed by PT Pindad to Indonesian Armed Forces.

In the age of the digitization of the battlefield, information superiority on the battlefield is critical for the conduct of successful operations. In this context, there is a need for the Army to operate connected but also smarter vehicles while optimizing the integration of the on-board electronic equipment.

In the frame of this partnership, PT PINDAD, PT LEN & THALES will combine their respective expertise on vehicle, tactical communications, command & control as well as electronic equipment and systems integration to develop value-added platforms thanks to a new vehicle information system designed for combat (named the C5I* system).  As a result, it will augment the vehicle’s operational capabilities (in terms of mobility, protection, combat, command) to maximize the efficiency of the unit deployed on the battlefield.

Thales provides over 50 armies worldwide with secured communications capabilities, with expertise around secured radio-communications, Vehicle Mission Systems and Vehicle Electronics System Integration. The company was chosen not only for its global expertise on the digitization of the battlespace, but also for its willingness to transfer know-how to its Indonesian partners. Through the MoU, Thales and PT Len are to collaborate to grow the local capabilities for the future vehicle digitization, while PT Pindad is to propose an armoured vehicle, specifically designed to fit the new Indonesian Army operational needs.

Abraham MOSE, CEO of PT Pindad explained “Through the MoU, our companies intend to bring to the Indonesian armed forces advanced technologies for their future vehicles. The armoured vehicle we want to build is to integrate the latest generation electronic suite and communications capabilities. The military vehicle we are showcasing today on our booth is the first step of our collaboration. It will pave the way to Indonesian industrial capabilities able to serve local end-user requirements”.
